 Acceptance and Committed Therapy

What is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy? - Thrive Training Consulting

As the therapy  name is self- explanatory it teaches a person to accept the reality wholeheartedly and with open mind , Its part of Cognitive behavior therapy but it focuses more on accepting the situation and committing it with open mind. In ACT through acceptance and mindfulness techniques it helps individuals live in the present moment. This approach helps in building a framework for committed action toward living a rich and meaningful life. So, the primary focus  of this therapy is on values, forgiveness, acceptance, compassion, living in the present moment, and accessing a transcendent sense of self. ACT is based on mainly six types of processes following are those core processes

  • Acceptance: Actively embracing, rather than avoiding, difficult thoughts and feelings.
  • Cognitive Defusion: Learning to perceive thoughts as passing mental events rather than absolute truths.
  • Being Present: Focusing on the here-and-now with curiosity and openness.
  • Self-as-Context: Recognizing yourself as the observer of your experiences, separate from your thoughts/emotions.
  • Values: Defining what is truly important in life.
  • Committed Action: Taking concrete, values-aligned steps, even when facing discomfort.
